Sandy "Sanman" Winnerman

Sandy "The Sanman" (notice: no "d") has been playing bass for more than 30 years. He toured the Midwest for a couple of years in the early seventies with a power trio called Cornerstone. His next stint was with Modesty Blaise, a horn(y) band that performed R&B, blues and Rock throughout New England. After that it was off the Jersey City State college to study Jazz improvisation and performance.
During this time Sandy was a member of the JSSC 18 jazz ensemble and performed with prominent guest artists such as Clark Terry, Bill Watrous, and Phil Woods. The band went to Paris in 1977 and Performed with Gerry Mulligan and Bobby Rosengarten. Sandy's musical education at JSSC overlapped for a year or two as he also attended Mannes College of Music, now part of the Manhattan School. During this educational period Sandy studied upright as well as electric bass guitar.
He left school in 1978 to pursue fame and fortune with Clyde Roberts a local performer, singer and song writer of some notoriety. Sandy left the music business for a few years to try and make and legitimate living. After achieving a modicum of success he soon re-emerged with JP and the Blues boys who were a fixture at Terra Blues in Greenwich Village for several years. Sandy has been busy of late on the local music scene with Butterball, Ironbound, Michelle Vecchione, the Watchdog Blues Band, Chaz DePaolo and is now covering the bass chair with Captain Mike. |
